How to Remove Console PRNDL Bulb
On my 1991 LS400, the PRNDL illumination on the console is out. I have removed the fake wood surround, the panel with the ECT/PWR switch and the PRNDL panel so I can now see the bulb. I haven't yet figured out how to remove the bulb. It looks like the bulb holder has a bayonet-type lock but, so far, I've been unable to get it to rotate using longnose pliers or a screwdriver.
Does anyone have tips on how to replace the bulb? And, while I'm at it, what is the bulb number?

OK. I got the bulb out by using the needle nose pliers with some rubber tubing over the jaws. The bulb is a wedge type. Now to the auto parts store to find a replacement.

I picked up some #74 bulbs but I'm having difficulty pushing it into the socket. The old one goes in just fine - the new one must have a very slightly larger base.

It turns out that the replacement bulb is probably the E74 rather than the #74. The base if the "European width" bulb is slightly smaller in both dimensions than the #74. That probably explains why I couldn't force the #74 into the socket. I've ordered some E74s so we'll see if it works better.

I have the same problem with my '93 but can't figure out how to remove the wood trim panel. Can you let me know how its done - I'm paranoid about damaging it. TIA Andy
