Need part #s and links.
1997 Lexus LS400. Need a replacement for shift solenoid E, the transmission filter, and anything else you guys might think of to check on while I got it opened up.
Also; does it HAVE to be OEM on these parts? Is there other options that won't send me to the "stealership"?

I would try just a fluid and filter change before I started replacing expensive solenoids that rarely ever fail. A far more common cause of transmission issues in a 97 LS400 is failing ECU capacitors. Have you done a visual inspection of the inside of the ECU? - have you done Yamae's ECU ripple test?
Also, keep in mind the following, Florida LS400's seem to have these ECU capacitors going bad at a far higher rate than any other state!

I found this thread;https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...-shifting.html
Im experiencing some of the same issues. About halfway through the thread someone offered this advice:
I own a transmission shop in Miami,Fl and have ran into this problem a few times.... First have a shop with an OBD II scanner that has the software to get into the TRANSMISSION side (not same as gen codes or driveability) check for gear ratio error code,If there clear code and drive again POOF! 99 out of 100 problem is gone! usually caused by playing with or bumping ECT power switch/OD cancel switch or moving selector during shift. ECM reads SLIP and sends pressure solenoid to Max to preserve unit.... Best advice do not ride around with hand on shifter and keep Li'l crumb snatchers in back seat away from pretty brite lites...Big Rob
Can I try this on my 97 trans?
