Cannot get serpantine belt tensioner pulley to come off
On my 92 LS400 with 248,xxx miles my serp belt started to scream after starting it up one afternoon. It drove fine the night before no noise or any problems. I recently replaced the serpantine belt about 200 miles ago because I heard a noise from where the belt is. Kind of a squeaking noise. I changed the belt and the noise went away. Now the tensioner pulley is seized and I cannot get the bolt to come off, I tried turning both ways clockwise and counter clockwise to try and loosen it but it won't break free. My mechanic is saying to replace the tensioner and pulley assembly instead of just the pulley because the bolt won't come off of the pulley. Just wanted to hear from others what experiences they have had with this.

If it is being stubborn with the usual methods, then yes, replace the assembly. None of us want to part with extra $ though your time and having the car ready to go is worth considering. Like my encounters, what should be a 15 minute job turns into a multi-hour project because something was being a PITA.

I ordered one when i did my belt and the pulley. I never used it looked like you have to remove the alternator. I might have been wrong but one bolt seemed to also pass thru the alternator.
Let us know.

mine is a 99. not sure if its the same for the other years..
One bolt is used with the alternator. The alternator would need to be unbolted. The power steering pulley was in the way of the alternator from sliding off the bolt(long stud).
Make sure to un do the battery when working with the alternator.

You can get an aftermarket pulley or CAREFULLY press out the old bearing from the idler/tensioner pulleys. However, the tensioner one is made from thin sheet metal.
If the OEM Toyota/Aisin tensioner is too rich for your blood, Goodyear makes a tensioner that fits but you may need to trim your timing cover. DON''T get a Dayco/Duralast one, it won't fit.
