The drivers side brake light (trunk lid light) has gone out and I need to replace it. Found the bulb I need (7443) but wasn't sure about the procedure. I found the "doors" in the trunk lid (see photo below) but wasn't sure if I replace the bulb thru there, from the inside, or if I had to remove the plastic tail light lens from the outside to get to the bulb. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
here's a hint, no tail light lens has to ever come off to replace a bulb
The bulbs in the trunk lid light modules are replaced through the openings behind the little door flaps you see when you open the trunk lid but the bulbs in the outer tail light modules can be replaced only after removing the light assemblies from the body via the hidden fasteners accessible when the trunk lid is open.
The tail light bulbs can get pretty nasty and blackened over the years. I replaced all the rear bulbs on my 2000 LS400 at about the six year mark and am overdue on replacing them a second time.
