I think you removed the spark plug beauty cover and that allows you to see one cam gear of the timing belt. But visually inspecting a timing belt can be tricky. Best is to be safe and look at the odometer especially on an interference engine. By the way I bought a gs400 with 160k on it and when the timing belt was changed it had the original one on it, and from the looks it is doubtfully it had ever been changed. It was the first thing I did when I bought the car.

Yes i think you are right, the spark plugs had to be changed too.
Yes i bought a ls400 with 280.000 and timing belt was last replaced at 150.000 so i changed it too, but the the belt looked okay still. (but as people say here, that doesn't really say anything).
