Default Mobile 1 oil question

the car manual states 5-30w and that's for below 0 degrees and over 90 plus degress, if i remember correctly. my question since i live in san diego, ca where the temp is 40 in the winter and 90 in the summer can i use 10-30w?

i just did my first oil change and did the 5-30 mobil 1 synthetic. is there any harm in doing the 10-30w.

fyi the costco's in the san diego area have a 10 dollar off coupon for mobil 1 5-30 and 10-30. thanks for the help

5w30 is the "recommended" in my owners manual but it also lists 10w30 for warmer climates. I would not see any issues using the 10w30 but I guess the real question is Why do you want to use the 10w30? do your summers get really hot??

YES!!

Toyota states in your Lexus factory service manual that 5W-30 is preferred for temperatures below100°F, but that 10W-30 is perfectly fine if you live in temps that stay above 0°F

reference: 1996 Lexus LS400 factory service manual - page EG-217

The record high temperature at the National Weather Service office in San Diego was 111 °F (44 °C) on September 26, 1963. The record low temperature was 25 °F (−4 °C) on January 7, 1913 - for this reason, I would use 10W-30 if I lived in San Diego

on my volvo s80 too has 2 options depending on outside temp. The manual says if its hot then use 10W30 and if cold then 5W30. So right now i am using 10W30. But there is no problem if one uses 5W30 all year long too. Just follow what the manual says. thats all
