New lexus owner - 2000 LS400
Hi all,
I just acquired my first Lexus and absolutely LOVE it! I actually purchased from a Lexus dealership which had a few perks-- super great service. I negotiated to get the timing belt/water pump serviced with my purchase. Only driven 1 week and preparing to do a tune up and detail.

It looks like a nice one - not many 00 LS I see have heated seats and the standard audio system which I consider a plus. You might want to check the attached TSIB to see which side of the line your 00 falls on - whether or not it had the steering column changes implemented at the factory unless you can verify with the dealership that the TSIB was implemented there.
I see no reason to do a tune-up based on time. The sparkplug change interval in miles is 120,000 miles. The original plugs in my 00 LS looked like new when they were changed at that mileage and the engine didn't run any better with new plugs.
Definitely read the stickies at the top of the LS400 forum page - lots of good information there.
I've driven my 00 LS from 38,000 miles to its current 156,000 miles over the past nine years - I still like it a LOT.

Oh thanks for the info Kansas - does this mean the car has rear heated seats as well if the sound system is standard?-- according to this pdf heated seats were included in 2 of the 3 packages for the vehicle or separately.
http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/2000/2000LSspecs.pdf
It does not have NAV so I know it doesn't have that package.
It does have moonroof, HID lights, 6CD changer. so it has at least PM package.
does Lexus have RPO codes somewhere on the vehicle so I can find all the options it had from the factory?

You should be able tell tell what factory options your car has from the Lexus website PDF - the only error in that doc is it saying that rear heat seats were an option. You could tell if your car was a Platinum Series if it had maple instead of walnut wood, 2001 LS430 wheels, "lizard leather" seats, and Platinum Series front fender emblems.

Yeah when the wheels are polished up they don't look too bad. A couple of the rims have some real bad scrapes n gouges in them but the pics hide it well. I would like to swap the one of the bad ones for the spare because it is pristine. I don't think they ever used the spare in their tire rotation- it still has the original Dunlops which don't match the Yokohamas that came with the car
My plan is to see how the current wheels handle a Chicago winter- I may throw some Blizzaks on them if there are issues but so far in the rain I haven't had any problems. Next spring/summer I am looking to score some gently used rims- maybe go up to 18 and see how that affects the ride quality

Man I would hate to see your LS get trashed with all the winter salt.
My '99 is à fair weather car only. Too clean to be driven during the winter.
Unfortunately my Excursion takes the winter's blow every year but i bought it just for that.
