Need a little advice here. Got the job just about finish. Except I can't seem to get enough play in the rear wiring harness to beable to lift out the coolant bypass piping on the back of the engine. Got the upper and lower manifold, all the fuel lines, etc.. Just can't seem to figure this last piece out.

If I need to get that main rear wiring harness out, any clues on how to do it. Been scratching my head for hours. Or is there some secert to this that I'm missing.

I found this picture a while back which has some notes with the manifold removed which came from a site about the starter I think..

It's too big too attach here though, and I don't have access to photoshop until later today.

Were you able to figure it out? IIRC, there are 1 or 2 bolts that hold the wire harness in place that are HARD to locate. Carefully follow the harness from the driver's side using an inspection mirror - most likely the 'hidden' fasteners are on the DS. Fortunately, they were not too bad to remove/reinstall once you figure out where the bolts are located.

Reattaching the rubber hoses/clamps to the rear water bypass pipe was probably the most challenging aspect of the starter install (for me at least) - the smaller hose and clamp was a real bear once the bypass pipe is in place. Afterward, I found this flexible hose clamp plier tool:

How long did it take you to change out the starter? How many miles on the engine?

Any special tools needed for the job?
I have 2 SC400 with high miles, one is 140K and the other is 160K miles. Looks like I may have to do this soon.

As far as 'special' tools - the hose clamp pliers I mentioned would have simplified installing a few of the hose clamps. I bought the special hose clamp pliers AFTER completing the install...

Other than that, nothing more exotic than a torque wrench and a selection of wrenches and sockets.
