Yesterday, it was hit with a rock, but luckily no damage. Today, another rock hit, but I wasn't as lucky. It chipped with 2 tiny cracks. I immediately had it repaired today before it spred and the repair came out pretty good with only a tiny line visible (luckily it isn't in my line of sight like the original OEM repaired glass had). My question is, because the car sits so low, is this a common occurrence with this model Lexus? Is OEM glass more resistant to rock chips? I researched glass protection film and most people say don't get it for daily driver cars. It's bad enough that the beautiful factory paint on the hood gets chipped by a speck of sand (I know it's 30 years old), but do I have to worry about the windshield too, or is it my bad luck?
Can you provide more information about where you had it replaced and at what cost, and what kind of windshield they sourced? I have a faint scratch in mine on my 95 I think from the wipers having been run on a dry windshield with some dirt or something and it’s really not bad but it is exactly at eye level and a bit annoying on bright days. Can’t see it at all at night or if cloudy or rainy so may not be worth it. Just wondering what you paid and where.

I had Safelite replace it. The quote was for $312, but my insurance took care of it. It is not OEM, but at least it's crystal clear with zero distortion. They did a good job. No leaks or additional wind noise. I find it funny that to replace the entire windshield it was $312, but to fix the rock chip only was $185. Wow! I paid the $185 out of pocket because I didn't want insurance to freak out and jack my rate. One note, they did not carry the top chrome trim that fits between the glass and roof top. Luckily I came prepared and had it in hand. I ordered from Rockauto months prior. I think i paid 32 or 36 bucks at the time.

Thanks that is super helpful. I should be able to figure it out but if you have any link to the product you bought for the trim, or picture of the piece, that would be greatly appreciated. I think I will replace my windshield eventually.

Unless it's a huge chip or multiple impacts, fixing rock chips you can do yourself with Youtube\Amazon kits for really not much money. It's quite easy to do.
