Question Naki stereo-what goes: Speakers or amp/head unit?

When I got my 93 with the Nakamichi the rear door speakers didn't work. Over time the passenger side speaker died and then finally the driver's side so I'm down to the woofer.

My question is: Is this indicative of an amp or head unit issue or the speakers themselves? The thing that makes me think it's a head unit issue is back when most of the speakers worked, the CD player would only send sound out of one side. I'm thinking about removing all the factory parts and just replacing it but need to know if I can just go with speakers and leave the stock stuff in.

I would. I replaced all my door speakers after i got my 92. One didn't work the others were blown. Sub was still good. Changed mine for good stock size and sounds great.

Just be careful taking the panels off so not to break any fastners.

Thanks. I suspected amp but if this is just speaker problems that would be way easier to deal with.

on the nak, the amp is only for the sub.
the door speaker run off the headunit itself.

According to the diagrams on the ARRC website, the amp drives only the sub on the standared Pioneer audio system in the 1993 LS400. On the optional Nakamichi audio system in the 1993 LS400, the amp drives all the speakers.

91-92 is powered from the radio.

Quick question. I have a 93 ls400 which came stock with Nakamichi system. I changed it to a aftermarket headunit it worked fine but not as loud as stock. Then just yesterday I turned the volume to max and the sound was very low . Is my amp blown?

Its possible. Either you have a bad connection to amp. I had that issue with my 92s sub amp. Was playing low than i redid it was fine after. Or the amp went into protection mode. Don't know if those have that option.

How low does it sound? I know with mine the sound is overall lower with my new headunit than stock. I just figure the volume increases at a smaller rate than the oem one.

three of my door speakers were dead. i had the same questions regarding the cause. i replaced all four door speakers and they all came to life. do a search for "ctx-4" and read my post on the image dynamics speakers, if you are staying with the 4".
