99 ls 400
just found out that I need a new Throttle body assembly and a new aux. fan bracket. The estimated repair is out of site. The LS has 140,000 miles and I was considering upgrading to a newer model. Should I repair and keep or trade and let the dealer repair?

Don't let the dealer repair, find a mechanic elsewhere, if your in a big enough city to have a lexus dealership, you should be abe to find some decent independent mechanics. Upgrading to a newer model is also an option, but it all depends on whether or not you are ready/ want a new car

I'd say keep it, you only have 140K on it. If you can fix it yourself you can get used parts at the junkyard. Or if you can't you can buy the parts online cheap somewhere and get an independant mechanic to put them in. It will only take them a couple hours to do it. But if you do trade it in, get the used parts and have the independant put them in. It will be worth alot more on a trade in if it's running right and doesn't need anything. Don't let the dealer do the repair. They don't rip you off but they do charge too much, it's just the way it is.

just wondering, if the repairs on a 99 are "out of site"(sight) why would you consider a new model. The repairs and maintenance on a new one are going to be more than those of the 99.

Welcome.
What is the estimated cost on the repair? What happened to the TB?
The fan bracket shouldn't be big $$. Considering the 99 is ball park $6K upgrading to a newer 430+ is going to hit ~$7K+.
If the car is running well and well cared for, I see no reason to get another car unless you really want a new ride. That will likely need some $$ for small or big repairs then the insurance for a newer car...etc.
