Default Hi-Flow But Quiet Muffler

Hello Gang,

I am doing a TT project for my 90 LS400. Since my down pipes are 3", i would like to upgrade the look and the flow of OEM mufflers. I would like to maintaint the quiet sound of a LS, but higher exhaust flow.

I have two Magnaflow mufflers along with Bassini X-Pipe on my 98 supercharged Cobra. Its loud and its ok for the mustang, but not for LS400

I am looking for quite but yet high flow muffler.

Yea, Magnaflow is pretty loud.

For a universal exhaust that isn't too loud check out Greddy or HKS because my experience with those exhaust are that they aren't loud till you stomp on it.

I don't know about the Apex but some are quiet from what i have heard.

What do you expect your power to be? With 2 banks of 2 liters each your output could range from 300hp to 1000hp with the most likely range of 400-500hp.

The larger the pipe diameter the harder it is to control the decibel level. Turbos actually muffle the exhaust somewhat. I had a 2.3 liter turbo with a 3" downpipe, 3" catalyst, 2.5" inlet to dual 2.25" Y-pipe leading to dual 2.25" tailpipes. Notice I had a turbo and catalyst but NO mufflers! The car was GT Mustang loud. Not quiet but not bothersome. BUT not Lexus...

As you may have noticed I am planning a complete cat back system for my 99 LS400. Most aftermarket Lexus exhaust is rear mufflers only. I have completely removed those and the sound level is still very low. Lou had his stock system break off after the center resonator and was quite loud. I am giving serious thought to a dual path system with a "power" valve. This system would use a high flow Y-pipe from the catalysts, have a large capacity center resonator and then have a unequal Y splitter. One side of the splitter would be 2" and lead to a resonator and then one stock final muffler. This would be the low speed path and would stay Lexus quiet. The other side would be 2.5" and would go straight to a very high flow muffler. This would be the power side. The "power" valve would be a butterfly valve closing off the power side below 4000rpm and would be operated with a solenoid.

Maybe a similar setup using a 2.5" quiet side and 3" power side would deliver on your plan?
