I retorqued the valve cover bolts to just snug, about 5 ft lbs of torque. I didn't have a proper torque wrench for the job, maybe I think about getting one soon. Anyway valve covers are fine. I got it all put back together and started it up. Fine. The only thing was from dash it was throwing me a "check VSC" light. I thought WTF. I checked a few connections and finally ended up cleaning up my battery terminals with brush and baking soda. Hooked the battery back up and tried it again. Lucky no VSC light. So I think I am done with the job now.
Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I will try to put up more info about the job some time. Not sure how soon. Also since I have changed timing belt and accessories and changed my camshaft oil seals on a 98 ls400, I be happy to pass on the knowledge to anyone interested.

What's the part number for the crank seal. I got a 99 ls400 and would like to do this if possible.

What did you use to clean the area? I read about this, and I'm waiting on parts now. Need to clean up and don't want to use the wrong thing.

Do I just use degreaser? Any specific brand? Or another product? Thanks!
