Default Is it possible to adjust the kickdown?

Is it possible to adjust the kickdown on the 1UZ?

Maybe this is normal but I have a '93 LS400 and.....

let's suppose we're approaching a steep grade and were cruzing along at 50kph and the speed limit is increasing to 80kph so we want to accellerate up the hill. The car is in O/D at 1/8 throttle. We step on it gradually to almost 1/2 throttle - still no downshift...........at about 3/4 throttle or more it downshifts 1 or more gears and comes alive.

now maybe I'm being picky here but I'm expecting it should automatically shift down and accelerate with just 1/3 throttle input and not require you to floor it to choose the proper gear.

Do they all act this way? Can it be adjusted?

Oh and btw I've adjusted the cable for the transmission under the TRAC cover and it does not appear to have any effect as I've also confirmed from other posts and mechanics as well

I think you're just being picky. My 93 only kicks down when it's floored. But that's what the little button is for, to take it out of O/D.

Tks - never thought to touch the O/D - often I just pull back into 1 or 2. If yours is the same that's good to hear - guess that's the way it was built

Tks didn't find anything in LS400 but found something in the GS category assume transmissions are same cuz I tried adjusting cable all the way and it did as the post claimed - tightened up the shifts, made going in and out of park a little bumpier and made the kickdown more sensitive. Incidentally before I made the adjustment my cable was adjusted to 1mm as per spec in the manual below
