Default that quiet? but how?!!!

Hi

I was wondering how does lexus build such QUIET cars? Is it numerous layers of sound-proof padding, or is it pure technology? I mean, you've got moving parts (metal to be exact), combustion, friction, etc... how is it possible?

Thanks.

NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) is an engineering science. Tuning of the components combined with insulation and careful material selection is key. My LS400 has MANY components designed specifically for these tasks. Even the rear swaybar has tuning masses added and the airbox cover has a metal plate installed for just these reasons. To cover it all would create a book, probably a library of books.
