They didn't come stock height.

The coil overs made a night and day difference in my enjoyment. The steering is improved, and body roll has been reduced. I installed polyurethane strut rods at the same time and aligned it too. Also, I replaced the rear sway bar bushings with aftermarket units from eBay.

 

when i installed mine the rear was pretty nice right out the box, but my fronts were way to low

After you have everything installed you can just jack the car up and adjust them by hand normally.

 

search on that...I think the fronts come slammed...you will need to raise it like 1-1.5 inches...the rears, i cant remember but you may want to raise it like an inch. Just dont torc everything down. and use a few lugs just to hold the wheel on (dont drive it like this of course). Let it off the jack and see where its at...You may have to adjust it a few times.

 

Now I need some rims. I want to raise it after changing rims and get another alignment.

Okay thanks for the info. Weds is the day im getting them installed but i have one more question. Do you get a measurement from the ground to top of fender or do you actually measure from the bottom nut on the coilover to tee top of the adjustment cylinder to raise/lower? So like would i adjust it an inch on the coilover to get an inch of height? Just trying to do this right the first time, you know?

 

FYI, coilovers never come pre adjusted.

 

So I just ended up installing these coil overs myself and it turned out to be pretty easy but the front is still too low after adjusting them quite a bit out. I loosened the lower lock ring and turned them counter clockwise and it helped a little ,about a finger between tire and fender, and when I turn it rubs with bumps. Have you guys adjusted the top lock rings to adjust them more? I have 20x8.5 and 20x10 in the back...Could this be why? Very frustrated, please help!

 

go reread the instruction manual and stop adjusting the ride height with spring preload and use the lower bracket like you're supposed to.

 

Thats the only thing ive been adjusting was the lower bracket. Havent touched the upper with the 2 that are locked against each other. So my question is with the lower adjusted out to raise my vehicle in the front since im too low, should i adjust the upper preload spring setting or are 20's just too big on a 98 LS 400?

 

You didnt mention the tires size or offset. 20's will work...just may need to cut the inner fender liner. You need to run like a 225/35/20 or narrow 30 series tire would be better.

 

Yeah i have 245/35/20 front and 275 30 rear so i think that may be the problem. The edge of the tires just barely rub on the inside of the wheel well so i think i may have to roll the fenders. Hasanyone had problems with it rubbing when you turn and the dampening adjustment set to 0 , the stiffest ride?

 

okay, i got mine in the other day. installed first one on the front and its a good inch and half lower than the stock on the other side. Took me way to long to do the first one because when i unbolted the strut and it dropped down in the bracket and the end link nut was in the way. Finally got it out had to really push down on the lower arm to pull the strut up and over the nut. Hope the others go smoother.

My question is how easy or hard is it really to adjust the height later. My guess is you remove the wheel and jack under the lower control arm so you can adjust the coilovers.

Is this right?
