Temp gauge only goes up about 1/4 of the way. Cars runs great other wise. Anything possibly wrong?

Does it take longer then normal to get to the 1/4 mark? If so check your thermostat to see if it is stuck open.

If it takes the same amount of time to get to the 1/4 mark as before, but just stops and doesnt increase anymore. Check the single wire coolant temp sender.

Also check if you have a bad fan clutch that is always engaged.

Default Maybe the gauge.

My 96 LS 400 did that too.

I didn't do anything to it initially. The car ran fine as well like yours.

After having a chance to change the gauge with retired car parts, it now reads normal.

So, it might be the gauge.
