Default Rear Shocks

Hi guys, I just replaced number of suspension items on my LS400. Replaced the strut rods in the front and shocks. On the rear I replaced carrier arm bushings and this weekend I will replace the rear shocks. I do have a question. Can you remove the rear shocks without removing the driveshafts, as the manuals seems to indicate? I looked under and it loooks as if it could be done. If anybody has any thoughts or experience that would be great. I do have couple of pointers for anybody attempting replacing shocks. Get Harbor Freight elelctric impact gun for $40 and your compressing of the struts will be easy. Totally worth it. Thanks guys.

i just replaced my stock shocks to some coilovers on my 98 idk if its the same for all the ls which probably is but all you have to do is remove the rear seats to get the upper mount bolts of the shocks and the bottom bolt by the wheel and thats it.. pretty simple job in my opinion gl

What year is your car?

For my '91, there was no need to remove driveshafts or a lot of the other stuff called for by the manual. You can find a good writeup (pdf files) at:

And some post-replacement comments that add to the info in those files and the service manual at:

Thanks guys. My lexus is 95 so I was not sure if there are any differences between 91 and 95. I printed a week ago the link PDF file, just wanted to make sure it was correct. So it sounds pretty much the same. I will take care of it on Saturday. I just recived the boots since they were all thorn. Thanks.
