Yes, it's your AVC. Many people have plugged it for good but it does make it a little harder to turn when stopped or at very low speeds. I bought one with the intentions of replacing it myself but ended up paying a mechanic to do it. There are many threads discussing how to go about this....

Welcome to Club Lexus (CL)! We have nearly 10 years of history on the forums and just about every question has been asked in the past many times. You can get instant answers with no waiting by using the forum advanced search feature from the top menu bar and targeting the LS400 forum.

Once in advanced search, select "LS400" in the Search in Forum(s) box and try a few different keywords up at the top left. It sometimes helps narrow the search results by using the 'search titles only' option under the keyword.

For example

"xxxx" found the following threads among many others.

The ones under Option B 12 in the first post? They show for me. I'm using Firefox 3.6.13.

It's possible your browser is blocking them as they are hosted on a different website.

To help troubleshoot, here's the direct url to the first one:

Do you have any other symptom? I had this, started about a year ago. Once I even had the cloud pass me when I stopped about 300 feet from home! It would come and go and we found no reason for it.

A year later, there is an obvious hole in the high pressure power steering hose. It's probably been there for the year plus and didn't give me any symptoms until lately, no obvious leak for at least a year. Leak must have been tiny, ps fluid was always in the range when I checked it and mechanic never mentioned having to top it off excessively at oil changes. Just recently I have marks where I park. It doesn't even smoke anymore, the leak must have hit the exhaust perfectly at one time.
