Default Insulation for exhaust system

I had a little clicking sound that came from under the engine bay. I brought to the garage and my mechanic noticed it was metal plates over the exhaust system that were loose.

He removed them and inside was a pink product which I am guessing is for sound insulation. The clicking has stoped since but now I am noticing my car is noisier due to that insulation being removed.

I searched the forum and quite a bit online but I am not seing anyone who has this problem or even where I can purchase that part of the exhaust system again (Just the insulation part of course) and not the whole exhaust.

Can anyone offer advice/help?

Insulation? On the exhaust? It would be kinda crazy to keep the heat IN the exhaust. A pic of it would be nice. You said pink, if it's regular home insulation, it's not rated for anywhere near that amount of heat. (I've been insulating for 30 years) It wouldn't burn but it would melt over time. Maybe someone just slapped it in there. I don't remember ever hearing about any sound proofing on the exhaust itself, just on the underbody of the car. ????

I believe your right, it's not part of the exhaust, it's actually right over it. Thanks
