Installing new audio head unit problem
I am in thre process of installing my Pioneer head unit. I purchased the
Pioneer unit and the kit and wiring harness adapter per the instructions
on the sister tutorial site. My problem is that I have two extra wires on the wiring harness, the illunimator orange wire and the power antenna wire.
There are no wires on the radio harness that came with the radio, and the
wires that came with that harness are either missing the match up instructions on the wires or they are so small and poorly written as to be unreadable. The adapter harness and the kit are great- no problems there.
I just have these extra wires to contend with. BTW: I bought the Pioneer
radio that Amazon recommended for this project. Any one got any idea
what I should be about these extra wires-do I need to direct wire them around the adapter to the original wires in the car? The instruction booklet is very inadequate also- there is not a complete listing of the wires/color/
match ups there either. I purchased an Auto zone radio for one of my
Nissan Z's several months ago, and all the wires match up perfect on it.
Any help you can provide would be appreciate.

You don't HAVE TO connect the two wires. i didn't on mine and i was fine. i still catch all radio stations and have no problem with the illumination feature. but if you feel that it will bother you than i will let someone else chime in on that. hope this helped.

Hello there!...
What year is the LS?
I can't speak for other gen's but my existing '90 did have an antenna wire available from the harness and my new headunit and i connected them accordingly. There was noticeably better reception with the raised-antenna aiding the FM signal rather than just without it. I left the illumination-wire alone.

Mine is a '92 LS 400. If I knew what color the antenna wire was on the original
plug in, I think I would just wire around the plugs and go direct to the line. Is this
a good or bad idea? I want my antenna to go up if possible.

Lead Lap
I think the attached diagram for the OEM 92 LS400 Pioneer system shows antenna wire colors.

wiring up woofer to head unit
Thanks a million for the diagram you sent me on wiring up the speakers/
antenna. I used the blue wire at both ends for the antenna and it works
perfectly. I think I will put in an on/off switch somewhere under the dash
as I dont want to use stress the antenna assembly, and end up having to replace it.
I have got all my speakers working now, except the woofer, thanks to all
the helop I received from the guys on this site. I'm no audio system expert,
but their help made this project fairly simple.
On the diagram you sent me, Am I reading it right that the Woofer Amp in the trunk Positive wire to the head unit is pink. With the negative wire
being blue. I am guessing that WP stands for woofer/player. I plan to plug these two wires that terminate at the head unit into the RCA holes in the HU, using a short RCA cable and a line out converter attached to the cable.
Having read all the comments on either adapting a current system or
completely changing out a system, I hope I have the terminology and
parts I need to do this.I am going to try and use my current woofer and
amp in the trunk and just use the existing connecting lines up to close to the head unit and complete the process with an RCA cable and line our converter. Do I understand this right and have a good plan? Sorry this is so long. Thanks for your help- Jerry
