Bad fuel pump, tank at 3/4 what now?
Went to siphon gas out of tank to get below 1/2 so I can change fuel pump. Unscrewed gas tank cap and slid hose in and it does not reach fuel! Anyone know how to get some of the gas out so I can fix this mess. Hose goes in about 12-16 " and then hits something that blocks it from going further.
Thanks

Yeah, that's called an "anti-siphoning device", most late model cars have them, if not all. I don't really see why you need a 1/2 tank. Since the pump pulls out from the top, with the tank still in the car, why even bother draining it. I would pull the screws and if you see some seepage, then put a bucket or cardboard down to catch some excess, then just pull the pump. If you lose some, it won't be much, but be prepared to smell like gas if your not prepared like not wearing gloves.
Pull backseat up, it should unsnap with some force.
Undo electrical connections exterior pump connections
Unscrew the pump housing from tank.
Un-submerge the fuel pump, (take it out). Have a rag there to lay it on.
Unbolt/screw the old pump from the bracket and remove the electrical connections on the pump too.
Bolt on new pump, making sure your filter, connections, and mount are secure.
Put back together in reverse order.
Hope that helps.
