My stock exahust is about 2" from the ground right now and scrapes all the time. I noticed it hangs at least an inch lower than the frame.
Any way to raise it so I can get some more clearance?

I was thinking that. My concern is the header itself. It looks like the end of it that connects to the mid-pipe is low too. Can't really mess with the headers.... I don't think (no S&S for me).

OVAL piping now...plus that front piece is the Cat.

People do in Japan
-- shorten cat about 1" (require extend y pipe)
-- raise engine and transmission ~ 6mm (add spacer)(my friend did, and work)
-- use hose clamps to raise rear muffler (i did and work good)
-- delete resonator with straight pipe
-- or just make custome exhaust system

Off topic but Kyoei your car is clean bro! I have a few pics that another member took and I love it, clean and simple. btw what is your suspension setup? You are pretty low.

you can, but as kyoei said, its a lot of work because the part that's hitting is the transition from the cats (which are bolted to the header) to the y-pipe.

Had a PM requesting thoughts on increasing the ground clearance on the exhaust.

Here is the question(s):

I'm hoping you can help me with an issue I am having.
I've dropped my car on Megan coilovers. My exhaust is scraping like hell on speedbumps. I noticed it hangs at least 1"-2" lower than the rest of the car.
I would like to raise it up to be level with the frame so I can get my car even lower.
The parts I'm having the most trouble with are where the cats bolt up to the centre section. That's the lowest.
I'm considering replacing the cats with dimensionally smaller ones. I might replace the resonator with straight pipe. I'm considering replacing the mufflers with smaller ones as well. I've already removed my rear mufflers purely for the additional sound.
If I do all of this I'm hoping I can tuck the exhaust up enough to get my car at the ride height I want it at without beating the crap out of it.
I'd really appreciate any comments or suggestions you might have."

ANSWERS:

The stock exhaust should not be the low point on the car but could be hit by a speed bump in certain situations.

If I understand your question it would seem to be the slash cut sections at both catalyst outlets.

That is a section that I do not like and intend to modify.

It would be fairly easy for a GOOD muffer shop to cut out the problem sections and replace them with a small piece of mandrel bent 2.25" pipe.

This should move the pipes up slightly if done properly and should give the maximum ground clearance.

If still an issue you may wish to have some sort of bump stop welded to either side of the car that would contact any speed bump before the exhaust system.

Now I gotta get the car up on a lift and have at it.

what i would do rather than add a bend is use straight pipe with the appropriate angle welded directly to the flange:



the remainder of the exhaust would need to be raised as well but y'all can figure that out.

my experience combined with that of others leads me to believe that the 20 exhaust hangs lower, in relationship to the frame, than the 10.

that would impede velocity, based on the angle the cats would be joining, and directly decrease your power.

mandrel bend is the way to go.

i wouldnt want that, cats are sensitive to vibration and impacts, sso why have a cat that's going to be the part most likely to bang against the ground?
