Thru-Glass XM antenna with rear sunshade
I just finished installing XM radio in my LS430. I used a Terk thru-glass antenna mounted on the rear window.
Yes, it does clear the rear sunshade!
No, I did not think to check that before I installed it!
I used the Audiovox XM unit as it has RCA line level outputs. My original goal was to tap into the audio outputs of the cassette deck but as of yet I haven't figured out how to do that. My temporary solution is a cassette adapter, with a bit of a twist. I threaded the adapter wire inside of the cassette deck and out through a hole in the back for a completely invisible installation.
The adapter wires through a closed-circuit stereo mini phone jack mounted in the right-front console compartment. This gives me a way to plug in a portable MP3 player also.
The quality is respectable, and nothing had to be hacked.
Still looking for a good solution for mounting the XM control head. I'm leaning towards mounting it on the flip-down panel that covers the CD changer.
