Gas mileage...good-bad (The Mother thread)

I get 250-280 miles per tank or about 13-16 mpg, but 90% of driving is on city streets or clogged freeways. Interestingly, we get the same mileage for the 2004 Forester XT. They are both reasonably efficient for the weight (LS) or the performance (XT).

I get about 300 mi/tank in " PWR" mode, 360 mi/tank in "NORM" mode (ECT button). So you are getting pretty good milage considering you haven't done a tune-up on your car.

I finally worked on my car! What a relief!
These are the things I changed by myself for the first time.
Plugs with ac delco
EGR
PCV valve
air filter
changed oil
cleaned my intake ports
This was much easier than I thought and almost as time consuming as changing the plugs on my stealth.Even after four years only 3 plugs was going bad after inspecting the old ones.
Has anyone changed the idle up valve(on the power steering pump) by themselves? Can I change it from top or do I go underneath the car and take off the plastic covering?

On his radio talk show today, Tom Leykis reported his 3 year old LS430 gets 12-17 MPG!
That's in line with what harrier reports (13-15mpg on his 2001 LS430), but that sure is a huge drop in efficiency from what most of you report for your LS400's.

Looks like you don't know how to figure out gas mileage because a 1995 MB S420 will only get about 21mpg on the freeway , and seeing that it is a Benz the odometer is most likely wrong too !

Look back at the performance stats of R&T in 5 year increments, efficiency, performance and comfort have all been improved. Technology. Look at that electric car that will do 0-60 in 4 seconds...in the feature I saw, it was quicker than a Viper from a stop.

Maybe it's just me but when I have bought any Lexus, the last thing I looked at was fuel economy. Between me knowing it won't be great and a heavy right foot, I never cared.
Maybe with gas here in Atlanta now $2.00 I would consider a...uhh..nope, nevermind
And with Lexus HYBRIDS coming first with the 36mpg RX400h, the future is great for those wanting a Lexus and fuel economy is a buying consideration.

The most mpg I've ever gotten is 17, and that was on 400 miles of empty freeway. I average about 13/14 MPG. You should consider yourself lucky for getting such good mileage.
