What is some common problems with the LS400 that I should be aware of if my brother wants to get a 98+ LS400?

Not like, timing belt, A/C stuff that are eventually going to go out, but for example the speedo lights in the SCs go out quick, stuff like that.

If you do a search of this LS400 forum for "TSIB" or the "misspelling" "TISB", I think you will find information about TSIB's for the 98-00 LS400 that address issues with the steering column tilt/telescope, instrument cluster including trip computer, and the fuel level sensor in the gas tank. Each TSIB documents the VIN numbers of affected cars. The later the 98-00 LS400 was manufactured, the more of these issues were resolved at the factory during the manufacturing process.

There really weren't very many TSIB's for the 98-00 LS400. My 00 LS400 has had very few problems but it was manufactured at the end (June 2000) of the LS400 run.
