What are everyone's powerbands in their car?
As far as I know it's the point where the car accelerates the fastest and produces the most power. I have the original brochure for my 1990 LS400 and the dyno graph included says the peak power is at 2200RPM to 4000RPM or so.

My car has high mileage (129,000) and my powerband is nothing like the original , instead my peak band has gotten alot smaller and is between 2500RPM to 3200PM.

Has anyone else noticed this with their high mileage cars?
An easy way to test this just by your human senses is to accelerate moderately enough so that in first gear your car revs high enough to reach the powerband without over-revving (5000-6000??) RPMs. You should feel a smooth quick acceleration and your speedometer will move fluidly.

I'm no engine expert and not TOO knowledgeable about all this, so if anyone has any input it'd be great to hear.

It sounds like your car desperately needs a tune up. Try to see if the heated seats work yet?

Nope not yet, soon. when I have time to sit and pull the stuff out.

About the tune up, I'm rather confused about it because I have no idea what can be done. The spark plugs were changed in 1998 at 90k miles. It now has almost 130k miles and the guys at the shop said the plugs were fine but within a few thousand miles they could use a change.

The oil is changed on a regular basis (every 4k.)

Transmission fluids were changed recently, but the trans has ALOT of wear on it.

The records for the car show it had been previously maintained by the Lexus dealer and an independant shop.

What else can I do to improve performance? It's going in for a timing belt change soon..any recommendations for the shop time?

Check the following:
Air filter
Fuel filter
PCV valve
Compression test
Spark plug wires
Cap & rotor
Oxygen sensors
Catalytic (sp?) converter

Replace the faulty items and let us know what happens. Maybe your oxygen sensors are "tired"
