A/C and Radio Issues
My A/C has gone out. The a/c light blinks. I have also gotten a couple of codes, but I'm pretty sure it's the compressor(?). when trying to activate the a/c I get a bad smell from the vents. If this wasn't bad enough the Radio went out and can only be heard with volume turned all the way up.
When I rev the engine and hit the A/C with the lights on the radio turns loud then soft. (FM/AM/CD). Why is this related?
It also seems that the radio will start to increase volume with time driving but be scratchy.
Thanks for any help.

Check battery and alternator
Thank you for referencing a helpful thread. I will get these checked out first. The Radio worked today, maybe it's a ground wire. At least I have a good start in what to check.

If the compressor has seized, the compressor clutch will basically eat itself. You can see whether the compressor is spinning or not if you look with the engine running and the A/C on.

Check compressor
thank you for the info. With regret I'm going to ask the dumb question, because I haven't researched this or looked very hard yet. Where is the compressor? Is it dead center in the engine compartment about 6" down under the belt or am I totally off? If this is the compressor, what is on the right side (passenger) in the very front of the engine compartment?
I think the clutch is still working because I hear something engage. What is the difference that this may make to the repair?
I will look at this tomorrow.
