New 96 LS400 owner. Few questions..
Hi gang, I'm Jason. I'm a proud owner of a 96 LS400 as of today! I found it on Craigslist and scooped it up. It is pearl white over tan leather. The car is originally from Ohio, but was bought in Minnesota while I'm here working for a few weeks. I've been looking for one for a while and held out for a near perfect car! It didnt even have a door ding in it! no wear and tear on the inside or out and the car has 157k on the clock and the paint is almost like new. I am a Paintless Dent Repairman so I checked the car over top to bottom to see if any wrecks or rust was about, but nothing!! The only thing is I didnt get any service records. Is there a way to find any with my VIN#? Is my car 1st or 2nd Gen? Will I have power steering problems? I plan on a full tune up as soon as I return home in about 2 weeks. I read alot of the threads here and would like to know what to look for as far as high mile problems. I plan on using Mobil 1 oil. Hope to get to talk to many of you.

Your car is second gen.
They all have PS problems, do the preventative maint, you will be fine.
No high mile problems. Key areas are suspension, and do the regular maint and you will be fine. I drove one this morning with 223k miles, and it ran like new.
Local lexus dealer, if given the VIN, can check service records, if the car was dealer maintained.
Good luck.

Great!! Thanks guys, thats good to hear. I did notice today while driving, my a/c compressor rattles. Is that common for the car or could it be going out? its the factory one. And under a hard brake, I felt a good bump up front. Control arm bushings maybe? Felt like bottoming out. My car has a electronic ride control option. is that just the air leveling system or something different? I just wonder if I need to replace shocks and struts. And where is the cabin filtration filter located?? Overall, I love this car!

do the shock-bounce test, and look for dead front lower ball joints and/or strut bar bushings.
AC Filter is behind a panel in the glovebox, VERY easy to change.
yes that is air, hope it doesnt start to leak as they get expensive to fix.
