Default Added auxilary power to center console ('95 LS400)

Basically I was tired of having only one cigarette lighter to use for power.

The short story is that I removed my Lexus Phone from the center console (junk). I then tapped the 12v power source from the phone and added 4 new outlets to the center console.

My iPod and cell phone no charge and I've got two extra slots open.

Very simple and a vast improvement.

Best,

Dustin

Post a photo, if you can. Does your car have a power outlet in the center armrest/storage?

The 1995 does not have an aux. power outlet in the center console.

I purchased a 4-unit aux. power brick at Fry's, lopped the end off of it and wired the unit in to the now useless phone cable that was running into my center console.

There is 12v power running down the cable. I tapped, fused and hid the wires.

I'm wondering about the center armrest, not the console. If you get a chance, look to see if there's an outlet (might have a plastic cap over it) in the storage in the center armrest. Might only be later models ....

Do show us how it turned out if you have a camera handy. Sounds useful.

Hah. Just figured out that you're not talking about the center control console but the center armrest/console. I get it now, I think.

LexLS's handy LS Generations page confirms what sonyman and others say about the outlet.

The previous owner already took care of this one for me in my 91. He bought an ebay 2-outlet piece and wired it up to the 12v outlet next to the ashtray. It's very convenient to keep my ipod charged while it's in the armrest, and my phone too.

You just need the power (hot wire). Take a meter out and test both wires. The one with 12volts will be your winner.

As for the expansion of power ports (lighters), can't you just get the plug and play adaptors at any auto parts store that turn one into four, and so on?

The benefit of doing what you did is? Looks? Dedicated power to the additional port(s)?
