Default Gearshift Lightbulb ... how to get to it? 2000 LS400

Self explanatory title.
I've taken off my wood console, and I can plainly see the wires going
into the ECT button.
I also see a couple of wires going into the front of the box, but I don't want to randomly yank at these wires for obvious reasons.
Are there any screws that will open up access into the shifter box?
There must be some way to expose this tiny bulb.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me ... I'd love to look down and see what
gear I'm in at night.

take off the shifter ****, then take the plastic part with the written letters on it. Its held by some clips... just be very careful. When it comes out, you will see the bulb going in from behind. Simple job, just be very careful.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll take a closer look at the shift handle and shift box tomorrow.

First impression ... I love the understated elegance and refinement of the car.
Pet peeve ... the trip computer is in metric, with no imperial switch ... dumb.
I hate converting the metric to mpg in my head.

Yes, that's the one .... only 95klm on her.

I traded a 2001 STS with 133klm, plus some cash.
The car was a one owner, bought and serviced in Ottawa.

It feels like a new car, whereas my 01 STS was feeling very tired ...
the STS had 300hp, but felt slower, and had many weird vibrations
which I attributed to the heavy front end on a 300hp fwd platform.
I had 4 STS', and they all aged very quickly by comparison to the LS400.

I still find it hard to believe that a 7.5 yr old car does not have a single
rattle .... this one is a keeper.

It's a very clean car. I was at that dealer lot helping a friend out and I saw it parked there. I checked it out, it's in very nice condition... was a bit over my budget though. I wanted to take it for a test drive a few days after that but it was already sold. It's pretty crazy that someone would trade in an LS for anything Saturn/Saab could possibly have to offer.

I find the metric system annoying as well. I prefer MPG over L/100KM.

I need to replace a couple bulbs in my temp control buttons and the heated seats buttons. I have a feeling they're going to be pretty hard to get to.

The car wasn't actually traded in at the Saab dealer ... they had it on consignment from a dealer in Ottawa.
The car had lots of little scratches, but the paint has come back like new.
They wanted $20,900, and I got it for around 18k.

BTW, any links to pictures of your 1995?
Black on tan is my favourite combo for this car.

Oh yeah? It looked pretty scratch-free to me. How did you bring the paint back.. buffing? I think I remember a straight line dent going from one side of the quarter panel, crossing the wheel well, and continuing on the other side (passenger side of the car). Is this the same car I'm thinking about? It didn't look too bad though.

My 95:
I did 15% tint all around.

Puredrifter ... yes, about $18 k Cdn, or $17.9 USD
These cars only come up for sale sporadically in Ontario, and
most 2000's go for $18-20k. I just consider myself fortunate to
find one with 95k/59miles on her, one owner, dealer maintained.

Black LS ... when I first washed the car, I noticed fine scratches, and a few
chips on the lower body cladding. I used Lexus touch up, then removed any excess hardened paint with a rubbing compound and lots of elbow grease.
Next step was clay bar, polish to remove scratches, and a sealer coat.
The Lexus paint really came up nice and deep.

I have 4 directional, high speed rated snows to go on come December.
Come Jan., I'll bite the bullet and perform a t-belt/water pump service.
My miles are way under, but the car has been in service since Jan.2000,
so I'm past due in terms of years.
On a Sunday drive today, I averaged 28mpg (Imperial), including a bit of
sightseeing. My STS never got above 23mpg, so I was quite impressed.
The Michelin Hydroedge tires have a bit too much roadnoise at hwy speeds,
but they are very secure in the rain.

So you didn't buff the car? Or is that included in polishing?

If you're interested, I have 4 almost new Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 tires that came with my car. Only one season on them (excess tire skin still there). I have no use for them as I don't plan on driving my car in the winter. If you haven't bought your tires yet, let me know, we could work something out.

I bought my tires 2 yrs ago ... they came off an OPP pursuit car, and are hardly worn .... thanks for the offer, though.
Re the buffing, I didn't have to use the orbital buffer.
The paint was in pretty fair shape, so after a few touchups and claybar, I used a swirl removing polish, then a sealer, strictly by hand.
The results are solid ... I love the feel of the paint when I wash the car.
The paint feels like butter in your hands.
After 7 winters in Ottawa, paint shouldn't look this good.
On a dull day, you can see a pretty clear reflection of my garage
and arbour bouncing off the paint.

Thanks for the pic of your black Lexus.
I thought that was the car currently in Autotrader.
Great looking car, I initially thought the pic came from an old brochure.
Very professional.
With your service history, that car has to be worth over 9k ... good luck
with it.
