Default Can someone help me out and check their tachometer...

Ive got a 91 LS and Ive been chasing a low idle issue forever. It was idling at 400 warm engine in park. Today it is idling at 200 rpms and feels the same. Ive changed everything to fix this problem and dont think I have a problem now. Im thinking its the tachometer needle that is off. When I turn the key to power the needle moves up but no where near the 0 on the tachometer. Ive had the car for 2 months now and think either someone set the needle back wrong when they repaired something or its dying on me. Anyone ever encounter anything like this?? Thanks everyone for the help!! Nel

Does it sound like it is idling that slow?
Like you said, it may just be an error in indicating what the actual RPM is. Is it sounds fine, I'd let it be.

Im thinking it doesnt sound that low but want to make sure just so I can get that low idle issue off my mind. I would imagine that when you turn the key on it should jump to 0 on the tach and if this is the case then my tach is off.. Thanks

How smooth is it at the low idle? If it is too low it seems logical that it would shutter a bit....??

Seemed smooth until today. On the way to work and it died at a light. Managed to get it home. Read the check engine code and got a 31. Dead MAF. Car will no longer stay running now. The search begins for a MAF! Am starting to wonder now if this what was causing the low idle....

My idle is at 400 in gear with the brakes on. Hey at least the MAF is easy to get to. Shouldn't take too long to change.
