Default Failed emmison.1990 ls with code 28

The dignostic code referred to the main O2 sensors being bad.I changed this sensor from one I got from O reilly auto parts and another from ebay. When we installed the ebay sensor it kept killing the fuel injection fuse which is in the fuse box in the engine bay(15 amp fuse).I then went back to buy the other O2 sensor from O reilly auto parts. When we installed it the fuse didn't blow.I am only getting 15mpg and about 270 miles to a full tank. After we replaced the main O2 sensor the code read 21 which also indicates the 02 sensor.Should I go ahead and replace the sub 02 sensor?I just hate the guessing games that these mechanics play.

Was this a direct replacement o2 sensor? of was it a universal sensor tht you had to splice into the correct wires?

Default That is a good question

It was a universal one that I had to splice the wires. When we put in the ebay one it just shut off and wouldn't start until we either unplugged that side or put in the universal one from O reilly. My mpg is 14/15 with a failed emmision.I may have to get the original O2 sensor.

Hey guys I fixed my own problem.I had spent about $200 on the O2 sensor when I bought the universal. This includes the guy I paid.I went to Part-plus and ordered the original denso that came with this vehicle and unscrewed the headache unversal one I had bought and put in the denso.Viola! My check engine light went off without having to reset the ecu.I did change both the main O2 sesnor and they cost $97 each.
NEVER BUY THOSE UNIVERSAL ONES.
