I have recently had my 91 LS-400 to an easy 140 mph. The car has 128,000 miles. With recent new V rated Turanza LSV tires and new Tokico struts, the LS rides like a dream. It is so quiet and smooth at 100, that it is hard to back off.
A Lexus dealer told me the new LS430 is limited to 133 mph, but not sure if this is correct.

I think everyone was just curious on how you got that perfect shot especially myself. You answered the question. Just be careful dude and count your blessings! I know with the cars we have it's very hard to see an empty road in the wee hours of the morning and not punch it!
The Joy of Relentless Pursuit, AHHHH!!!

My Viper GTS got up to 170+ so fast it was truly scary. Pure adreniline. This car just won't do it, but it sure is quiet and smooth at 100+.
Anyone know how to hack around the governor? Not that I really like to go that fast, but the thought of that artificial 133mph limit bothers me. (the Viper was a track car- the LS is just too mushy for that)

What types of harm could be done to the engine, tranny and other important moving parts? Does it not reduce the car's longevity/reliability? I mean, you're not kidding, you've got about 3000-4000 lb of metal at 130-160 MPH, and the engine is doing 4000-5000 RPM to pull the thing!!! Mechanical harm HAS to be there, no?

Top Speed w/ GPS pictures in 98 LS400
Hello All
Well just wished to share some pictures with you. These were taken of my 98 LS400 on a four lane empty road at a Top Speed of 151mph based on the GPS speed indicator. The LS's speedometer was indicating 155mph. A fuel cut off kicked at the 151 speed. The car maintained the speed very well with only a small indication of the fuel cut off engaging.
My LS is 100% stock and goes in for service at JM Lexus every 5k miles, so its in MINT condition. I added a Garmin C550 Navigation unit about five months ago. I have it mounted on the steering column directly in front of the tachometer. It works perfectly there. The fun thing with Nav is that it captures and saves you top speed until you choose to erase it.
These pictures were taken with a Nextel camera phone. The pictures have NOT been modified in any way minus reducing there size to post here.
The point of the post is to show you all who have wondered what is the official Top Speed of our cars is.
I will say this the cars was very stable at 151mph. You just felt a slight nudge when the the fuel cut off kicked in and out. It was not any harder driving at 151 than it was at 85 except you would never dare take a turn at 151mph. Being it was a clear day and the was no trffic and the road was flat, there was no danger of driving and taking a picture. Is it risky yes, but again no one outside of the LS was in ANY danger at ANY time.
It took about 30sec to get from 80 to 140. From 140 to 145 it took about 12 seconds but to get to 151 took another 12 seconds. Now these are toally rough estimates. On the video you can see the run from 80 to 140 takes about 30 seconds. The point is from 140 to 151 felt like it took forever compared to getting to 140. At 140 the car felt a little floaty but once it broke 145 it just hunkered down and drove smooth as could be. I have read that the European LS have no speed limiter and can do 160mph plus. I will say this I dont think a stock US LS400 should go over 150mph with out a stiffer sport suspension.

I also have a quick video of the same day going from 80 to 140mph in 30sec's.
Here is the video on Youtube.

P.S. Also the mpg indicator was set to current. Its amazing how you get better mpg as the speed goes higher...makes no sence to me, this was noticed later when looking at the pictures.
Also Please understand this post IS NOT intended for people to try this especially teenagers. I am not condoning or praising speeding or braking any laws. I would never recommend anyone trying something like this. At the same time like I said my car is maintained in Perfect Tip Top condition. It has new Bridgestone ER33/OEM Z rated tires filled with Nitrogen. It also has all new Lexus shocks, bushings and all the needed suspension peices maintaind. The road condition was perfectly flat and straight for the most part. Two lanes in each direction with a large metal railed median in between. No traffic in either direction, and was a clear sunny day. As you read it took a couple of try because when traffic did appear from any direction or a slight turn was coming the speed run was stopped.

Hey Youtube great idea. Just did it but may take some time for it to become active.
Yeah it was a public road but no cars at all in either direction. Very very empty road pretty much 24/7.
