I have a 93 ls 400 and I want navigation. What is the best route to go? Will any system fit? Please help!

I have the "Magellan" Neverlost in my Infiniti (aftermarket)
works great.. This is the same system that Hertz puts in all of their rentals.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350.
The best thing I ever bought.
Read reviews online and deside for yourself.
The coolest thing is that it has built-in battery that lasts for about 8 hours.
You can take it out of the car and use it to walk around in an unfamiliar city.

 

I second the Nuvi 350. Its THE best user interface out there. There are millions of POI's in there. I use it for things I never even thought I would.
Also, different than other Navs out there, it will voice out the street names instead of "turn left 500 ft" it will say "turn left on brown ave. etc...)

Also the Nuvi 350 comes with a nice express mount, so that you can unclip the unit itself on a whim, whenever, in one second, you can leave the mount where it is, and just stow the unit in the glove box locked up. Or take it with you. I actually bought another mount off of ebay and put one in both of my cars. That way I can just take the unit with me, without fumbling with the windshield mount.

Go with the Nuvi 350, you won't regret it.

 

If you wanna go for an in-dash touchscreen unit you have options too--only it will cost you more than the mounted ones and won't be portable. I had a Kenwood DDX unit with Nav in my old Supra that was excellent. Pioneer makes the AVIC D1 and Z1 and Eclipse has a good unit as well. With some of these you'll get DVD video playing ability as well.

 

I borrowed a coworker's Garmin portable nav a few week ago and found that I could often not hear the voice prompts while listening to the radio or a CD -- even with the nav's volume at the highest level.

The only portable nav systems I have found that can mute an audio system while giving voice prompts are from TomTom and only if you have the "Car Connect" option: http://www.tomtom.com/products/acces...ategory=&Tab=1

Stereo speaker for loaud clear nav Promts

Not bad. How much do those retail for? When it comes to portable navs, is there any wiring involved? Or all battery powered?

 

Well for how much it depends on the unit. This was the top of the line 3 or so months ago. I got it for around $500, but one could buy the model below it for under $300. No live traffic or MP3 player.

I had it temporaliy wired until I figured out exactly where to mount it and how. Now its permanant. I can remove it and use battery power in my RX. I could also just buy another cord. JM Lexus installed it for me on my last service. I could not be happier.
