you can also try that and adjust the sensor so it idles higher.

Thanks! Not really bothering me, so I guess I will leave it alone. Was curious if my idle was "out of spec"

seems a little low...it can be easily adjusted but do it after the timing belt and stuff.

hi ryanSC300lover,

do you feel your car shrinking at that engine speed? mine is always a bit above one bar up compared to yours. its about 650rpm

Car is too fat to shrink. Nope it doesn't do anything, runs perfectly fine.

This is interesting, I have a low idle problem on my celsior im going to investigate.

I was thinking it would be as simple as an a idle adjustment screw, but maybe not after reading this.

Is there no other way to simple adjust idle.

ok kinda old thread, but i was trying to do this on my sc4, since it's the same engine. was looking for the power steering part and could not find where it led to. i can't even see in there, let alone fit my hand. i took out the air box and coupling, but no use. anyone can help? trying everything to try fix my sc. =(

This is the best advice ever!!! I was just about to replace the whole power steering pump but thought I'd try simply swapping hoses, and my car drives better than it ever has! For several months I had white smoke in the exhaust and had to top off the power steering fluid weekly. The steering began coming and going erratically, kicking in only after I drove a couple minutes, but being unavailable the only time I needed it -- at low / no speeds. Finally it quit altogether, and for the past six months I haven't bothered putting in any power steering fluid, figuring the pump was dead.

(If anyone wonders, it IS possible to drive an LS400 without power steering, but barely so. Parallel parking in Boston used to take a few flicks of the wheel, turned with a only a single finger; without power steering, each redirection of the wheels took a full weight-lifting workout and a couple minutes. You get used to not having power steering, but it can be dangerous at first because you're not able to react to road conditions nearly as quickly. If only I'd looked for this post a few months ago!)

It's easiest just to get a coupler and connect the power steering pump loop up by reservoir, rather than try to get down below. My hoses were brittle and the one between the two manifold intakes split, and the idle did seem messed up on the way to the auto parts store. Once I connected those two, everything was fine. I had no idea the power steering could work so well!! Thanks a million for your post!!

i would also say that is a little low.
mine is 200 rpm at idle with the shift lever in drive/air off
with the car in neutral air off, I am reading a little over 600rpm

the manual states 650 rpm + or - 50 with car in neutral and air off

oops,well maybe someone can use the info I posted.
Every time I read a post about idle issues no one specifically states there rpm setting, while in drive neutral etc.

Default would this work for a 98-00 LS

im getting desperate. My 99 idles at 200 rpm in D without lights or AC. Cant seem to fix it and its really bugging me.

would this work for the 99? Are the power steering lines the same as a UCF10??
