Cant Drive At Night....
Ihave a 92 ls400 i can do all the driving i want to do as long as it is daytime and there isnt a need for lights. When the lights are turned on the drive as well as the reverse light on the dash shifter indicator light up and the cars wont get out of first gear cant get over 30-35 mph. I have been told that it is the alternator. Dont want to invest too much in a repair ..anyone ever heard of this problem?

The transmission in the 90 LS I used to have went crazy when a wire broke in the hinge and the "R" light stayed on until I fixed it. I was barely able to limp the car home when it happened.
Your problem seems more serious that what I had but it wouldn't hurt to check the wiring if it has not been fixed in the past.

I want to thank you for all the help you provided. I checked that hinge and i actually had three {3} wires that were cut . We stripped the wires and used connectors to reconnect the wires and I no longer have the problem with the lights..nor do i have a problem with my brake lights that i noticed werent working...and the trunk release and gas tank release finally work again. Its amazing that something so simple repairs so much...and to think I was told by a repairman it was my alternator....YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! I am a new spokesperson for this repair as I have let several friends and family members that own Lexus cars in on the lil mishap.

But seriously, this trunk hinge wire issue is used by a lot of scammers to sell unneeded parts and repairs -- even complete transmission rebuilds. A family member manages a name brand transmission repair shop and he has a weekly transmission rebuild quota to meet -- he doesn't care if a problem is caused by a broken wire in a trunk hinge or a real transmission problem. Either way, you would get a tranmission rebuild.
