Exclamation Intermitent Electrical Problem (Telescope, Radio, Seats, ect)

Hello all...

Had a 95 Lexus LS400 for about 2 years now....Have had these problems ever since I bought the car..but it seems to be getting worse..... </CRY>

My Telescoping/Tilt Steering barely works....have to press it in the direction you want about 20x....The memory seats dont keep memory, the radio backlight turns on when it wants too....

The first thing that I did when I started to notice these problems is that I added a couple of ground cables from the - terminal on the battery to the body...but still does the same thing... I really dont think that they are all a independant issue..but related in some way or another.....

Has anyone had any simular problems???? fixes????

Thank You

William

PS. Where can I pick up a repair manual (besides dealer) for my vechile...

Hmmm... how's the voltage coming off your alternator? If your voltage regulator is bad it could be sending too much or too little voltage to your accessories. Too much could be really bad because it could have already done permanent damage to all sorts of stuff in the car.

Did you do a title check on the car beforehand to make sure there was no flood damage? Have you checked anywhere to see if you see any signs of flood damage? (under the carpets or whatnot)

I have the same problem with the telescopic/tilt, but not the other problems you mentioned. I just bought my 95 LS 400 a week ago. I thought maybe it was the contacts or something inside the steering column, but haven't had the time to check it out yet. If I come up with something, I'll let you know. Just keep in mind that those problems might not be tied together.

if u can hear the tilt motor spin then its a stripped gear. simple fix, thread in the SC3/4 forums.

if u cant then its a dead motor, very $$$y to fix.
