transmission Reverse lights up when I hit brakes
I have a1994 LS400. Recently, I noticed that the transmission shift reverse lights up on the dash board when I hit the brakes. There is also a noticable down shift that I never use to get. Has any one come accross a similar issue? What is going on?
Thanks

It sounds like the all too common "broken wire in the left trunk hinge wiring harness" problem.
This happens very often in the mid-90's LS models. When it does, all kinds of weird things happen.
Pull the bundle of wires free from the left trunk hinge and check to see if one of them is broken. As I recall, it is white with a black stripe. Splice a length of wire into this wire to make it longer, and I think your problem will be solved.
This has been discussed numerous times. Do a search.

Does "Left Trunk" mean Drivers or Passenger side?
I'm guessing we are talking drivers side. I had to find an alternate ground than the one provided thru the harness to get my lights to function correctly. I never did experience any tranny side effects.

that cured it!
as described the white wire with black stripe was broken, it appears there is a pinch point at the trunk hinge that causes stress on that particular wire and eventual failure.
