Default Steering Wheel Deterioration

The steering wheel on my '97 LS400 is deteriorating, mostly on top (likely sun damage). Any suggestions on how to repair or replace?

where can you buy wood wheels for the first gen? Is it even doable while keeping airbag functioning properly?

Hi,

I also experienced this problem on my 1992 LS400. I bought a cover from www.wheelskins.com
I bought a two tone black and camel. (My car is black and interior is camel.) It is of the highest quality and I have had it on the car for more than two years and it still looks new. The only downside to this is that you must install it yourself. (Took about two hours to get it right.) I hope this helps.

Don't know about the 97s, but my dealer's tech said that my 98 steering wheel would be expensive. I have some cracking on the wood, but it's not worth it to replace it.

Jah:

I had the same problem on my first gen LS 400 with the leather on the shift ****. Got some Meltonian Shoe Creme of the approximate color and applied it to the **** and the steering wheel; looked almost good as new!

Give it a try.
