Default pneumatic electronic suspension - replacement alternatives

To whom it may concern,

I am getting a 90 LS400 as a gift and I have serious problem and I could use some information from the Lexus gurus. The LS 400 has the pneumatic electronic suspension and the front shocks/struts need to be replaced. I called around and the cheapest I found them were for 817.36 a piece from Carson Toyota, which is very expensive for a college student. I was wondering if their are any other alternatives to this dilema i.e. aftermarket options. If you have any information that would be beneficial to this problem, I urge to please reply. This is my first lexus and I used to drive a honda civic, pretty quick, but I wanted something special and this is a special car...

Thank You for all of your help,

Trevor

I believe Strutmasters makes a kit to nix your TEMS for struts. Another thing you can do is get the strut mounts from a non-TEMS equipped car and you can either go OEM shocks, Tokico Blues, or coilovers. Don't forget the springs - you can go OEM, or get ones with a 1-1.5" drop.

You could buy the OEM Lexus non-air shocks/springs/boots/mounts etc etc etc for about $700 in parts for the front, $750 for the rear. That would be all the parts necessary for a non-air ride. Thats still a ton of cash tho, especialy not considering labor. it is a solution tho!

I'd suggest finding a 90-92 wrecked and pull the struts out of it, complete. Assuming none are leaking, put them in you're car. If you feel the shocks are lazy or not preforming well, buy new shocks at that point. I would guess that if you could find an old LS in a junkyard you'd be looking about $200 for all 4 corners. Factory non-air shocks are about $60.00 new apiece.

have seen a few conversions completed, its only financialy painful. the installation is straightforward.

Thumbs up

Hey Fred I looked through that site a couple of days ago and I dont remember seeing the front shocks, did they add them in the last couple of days? These are great prices, and they include lifetime warranty .

Thank You guys, all of you for your most informative replies. I have researched until my eyes felt numb and I have not come across anything close. I will place an order for the struts asap and will keep you guys/gals updated.

Very Thankful,

T. Harris

Default 1990 LS400 Shocks

I too am looking for new shocks for my '90 LS400. However, I don' t need the electronic air type.
I found KYB GR-2 gas shock/struts online. I wonder if anyone here has any experience with this product line? They run for $86 per corner.
