I recently purchased my 1990 LS400.
Great one-owner car with all maintenence done.
But now the A/C is shot.
Local shop that does A/C work quoted "around $2,000.00"
Lexus quoted $2,600.00 to repair
Local A/C shop actually quoted higher.
It seems that they need to get Lexus parts.
Does anyone else have experience in getting the A/C done w/o Lexus parts? and where from?
Any reccomendations in the Philadelphia area for a shop to do the work?
Need help fast!!!
Thank you.

Sorry to hear about your A/C.
Those prices seems close to what I seen around Houston, TX.
First off there isn't much out there for Lexus cars for parts except through Toyota or Lexus.
Second I recommend just going with the Lexus parts because they are made for the car, come with a warranty, and last a long time (you said yours was a 90, so your A/C lasting for 11 years is really good).
Good luck,

Those prices sound right. Usually what happens on older LS's is the a/c compressor goes bad from wear and age. It can tend 2 send debris throughout the system. So after replacing the comp. dealers will usually replace the expansion valve & rec/dryer for preventive maintenance. I know people who have used aftermarket a/c parts but they tend not to be as reliable.

Where are you in Philadelphia?
Are you close to Northeast Phily.? Bristol area? I know a guy who will go to your house to charge the A/C and has connection to shop that replace parts for the car, then he'll do the charging of the freon. If you are live near Oxford Valley Mall/Fairless Hills/Bristol? let me know I'll try and get his phone no. for you.
It is best to buy OEM parts if you have to replace A/C parts. If you're going to spend that kind of money, change to R-134a...
