Default Big Problem...need Help!!!

Well, I took my 1990' LS to Hendrick Lexus (GREAT SERVICE...they provided free food and drink, computers, and a free car wash) for a diagnostics test just to see if I had any major problems. Turns out I DO! I need new upper and lower ball joints and my power steering rack has to be replaced. Hendrick quoted me $2471 for parts and labor on it all but I just cant swing that, especially at a car only worth $5000. Any one with tips or maybe a solution? I also need a new memory seats unit, new woodgrain, new hood shocks (they wanted $240 for those...NO WAY), and a new drivers master controls assembly. HELP!!

Might be time to look into a good local mechanic. They'll likely do the work far cheaper than Lexus, if you can live without the cookies and computer. You can also order your parts from places like Carson Toyota ( http://l-tunedparts.com ) at a deeper discount than the local dealer and have your new trusted mechanic install them.

Ebay is full of the parts your looking for. If you need new parts, try Swell Lexus, they also sponser clublexus. They gave me a fuel sending unit for HALF my local dealers price, and it was here in 3days.

I posted a DIY guide for lower ball joints...just search for it. It is not that tough of a job. The uppers are not bad either except the parts are expensive at $600+ for both sides and there are not many options. If your rack is only leaking a little then maybe you can just live with it. Mine has had a drip for about 20,000 miles and one of these days I keep meaning to get around to putting in a remanufactured one. Remans are about $250-$275 + a refundable core deposit. A mechanic should charge around 2 hours labor to install it and any competent mechanic can do it.
