Question about lowering

Default Question about lowering

I have already purchased lowering springs for my 90 LS. What I want to know is if I lower my car should I also replace the struts, or will factory struts do the job? I don't want to end up paying twice for labor. My struts are realatively new, I replaced them about a year and a half ago.

change your struts, go with kyb or tokico

Umm....ok..... why? What advantages does it have versus leaving them stock?

The dampening of the strut is meant to work with a factory spring rate. While there is some tolerance for using after market springs with OEM struts, the combined effects of a spring strut combo will yeild the optimum performance when upgraded together.

A crude analogy would be buying atheletic shoes and removing the foot bed and replacing it with the ones from your old worn shoe. Sure it works and it looks about right outside, inside is another story and the foot bed was designed to work with the other shoe.

well, if you search through the threads you'll find numerous accounts of people using aftermarket springs with aftermarket struts. You dont seem like you are too fond of the idea, therefore i wouldnt suggest lowering. Besides, why would u use factory soft struts with lowering springs designed for a stiff and sporty ride. If you use stock struts, they will blow out on you after awhile. good luck

Ok.... now i'm starting to get answers! I'm not against the idea at all, If I was I would have just changed out the springs and left the struts. I dont know much about the suspension system & how it works. I don't want to spend $300.00 for struts (again) If I don't really need them, so I came to the suspension system forum for specifics on the need to change.
