Default preventative maintenance at high mileage

Dudes,

I've decided to keep my car for another 5 years at least, so it's going in to the mechanic on Monday morning to have a bit of an overhaul.

I'm changing the front lower control arms, front lower ball joints, front anti-roll bar bushes, strut bar cushions, both engine mounts, transmission mount, rear anti-roll bar bushes, rear upper control arms, both idler pulleys, timing belt, timing belt tensioner.

Anyways, can anyone recommend anything else it might be worth doing as preventative maintenance at 171,000 miles? I was thinking of asking the mechanic to clean out the throttle body since that usually gets very full of carbon deposits.

Thanks,

Lex

Your list sounds good, I'd consider the O2 sensors and if you have it, the EGR valve. The throttle body sounds like a good idea if it needs it.

I would also replace the crank & cam seals while changing the timing belt.

hey

ive heard the starter is another common problem. I dunno if its true but mine did go bad..also the egr pipe. Im assuming youve already taken care of the ps pump assembly since thats pretty much a sure thing to go out. Other than that sounds like you have everything covered! good luck and I can see you love your car as much as i love mine..

EDITED for horrible grammar..sorry

Rear crank seal. They tend to leak on high milage cars. Mine does.

Thanks for the input guys. A lot of folks here in the UK would recommend that I just ditch the car and buy a newer model, but to be honest, I love the shape of the original LS400. Plus, my car is hardly likely to depreciate a lot each year, so it's more cost effective for me to keep this car as long as it goes. After all, I do know it's history since I've pampered it for the past 6 years! The only newish car I like the shape of is the Audi A8/Jag XJ8.

The only concern is the various wear issues. If the engine and driveline are fine and barring any major electrical, I'd say drive it as long as it will go. At that point, finding parts will become your worst problem but at this point, you aren't at that 20 year thing.

My experience here in finding older parts is that certain items get dropped from the dealers pooters at about the 16-17 year mark. I've had this with
