Question Air Suspension Conversion

I will start this thread by stating that I have spent many hours and days reading just about everthing here about suspension options for the 1st gen ls400. I have 130,000 miles on my '93 ls400 equipped with the electronic air suspension and it is indeed time to replace my air suspension. My front right air strut just went on me and I imagine it is just a matter of time before I will begin to experience problems with the other air struts. In no way am I complaning, as I have been totally satisfied with my ls400 up to this point. I am however considering my options to replace the suspension. I can't justify spending the money for a new OEM air suspension system for the car. Although the smooth ride of the ls400 is unmatched, I just can't put $4000 into the car. So my question lies in converting the car to a standard strut/spring suspension. I know that I can order the standard struts for the ls400 and that they will work fine. What I am confused on, is what else I will need to complete the conversion. I am a novice at this so please bear with me. I have heard that I will also need to order springs and top plates do do the conversion. What else will I need? I obviously want to make sure that I have everything that is required before I go to the shop to have the job done. I have looked into strutmasters.com, as they offer a replacement for the ls400 air suspension, but I have been unsuccessful in finding anyone who has done this. Any help would be great. I'm not ready to give up my ls400. It has been great over the years.

I believe Lextreme is doing a strutmasters.com suspension conversion. All you really need to do is buy the strutmaster kit, 4 struts w/springs installed. Then just remove the air struts and install the new ones, pretty simple. Now if you're going with a new air suspension system that will be some work, there are many parts involved with an air system....

I don't know what prices the front units cost, but I replaced both rear air struts on my '94 LS400 with Lexus OE struts and spent 2 hrs max of my time doing it myself and spent $820. I know it is a lot for a 10 yr old car but it does ride great and I have lowered it using the adjustable sensors, fresh alignment and it is a great car.

Here are some pictures:

Check out Carson Toyota's Part Dept. Very good place.
