Can be modified in these times yet depends just how much work one is willing to do. I was amazed at the down under (Australia) forums about the parts swapping among different Toyota products. Completely different models and years, they used the factory parts so it is pretty cool. Also mixed with some Nissan at times. A week back was watching Sara N Tuned and her Celica project with the AE86 front suspension swap. Pretty cool.
Just a note that the second gen suspension is longer over the first gen LS. We've not taken measurements of the 3'rd gen to have some specs to compare. I've not personally been into a 3'rd gen suspension to see the lower mount relative to the 1-2 LS.

3rd gen struts/springs are comparable and likely have some length differences. it's the arms/geometry angles on the 3rd gen that is very different!
