Manual gearbox convertion...
Does anyone know if the '98 comes with separate engine & gearbox ECU's ? .... Does anyone know anything about swapping over to a manual gearbox ?
Lots of videos on youtube so i know it's possible.... I'm concerned about fault codes & what work arounds are know ?
Any threads on this subject ?

ECU's are combined on all ls400's. Catune says all 1UZ ECU's can run a manual, with the earlier cars being easier.
Cartune does have a lot of information and diagrams and stuff, but that information he sells as part of his business. IDK the scope of what he sells.
About halfway through he starts talking about vvti motors.

I know a couple things about this because I'm swapping a UZ motor into a different car. You will need either an adapter plate or an adapter bellhousing. Bellhousings are uncommon in the US. The most commonly used trans is the w58 or R154. These came in Mk3 Supras (W58 in nonturbo mk4) and a few other cars. XAT Racing makes a kit, and there are probably some others. Cruise their website. The swap kit uses a clutch from a gen 2 mr2 turbo/sr20. All4swap makes a doodad that spoofs the transmission so the ecu doesn't throw codes. Quantum Auto sells these in the USA. You will also need some way of mounting a clutch master cylinder/pedal where none exists from factory. The shifter bezel will need to modified somehow and shifter located in a nice position. A speedo adapter will also need to be fitted. Dakota Digital probably makes one that will work. You will need a custom trans mount. Probably a custom driveline. I don't know if anyone offers these last two off the shelf. It's simple on paper, but actually a real PITA.

I second Cartune as a good source of info.

If you are in Australia there is probably more folks that have the parts due to the popularity of the UZ... I'm just not familiar with them. Bullet is one that I know of that may carry the parts you want. Cartune NZ also ships. But like I said, I'm less familiar with the market.
