Hello everyone, I have a LS 400 1992 with 162k miles and when driving in town without highway odometer does not work at all and trip meter works correctly. When driving on highway odometer begins to work perfectly fine and correctly. What could be the issue ? Speed sensor ?

Does your speedometer work properly?

How do you know that the trip meter does not work correctly?

If the speedometer and trip meter work but the odometer is intermittent, it could be the gear for the odometer is worn

yes everything else work correctly all the time
for trip I was going some where by the maps and compared the distance that in maps and what the tripe meter showed after the drive
My mistake I just did it again and it showed same thing as maps

No worries, sounds like it's potentially your odometer gear then, which is a known problem for 1990-1992

I would suggest to remove your cluster and inspect the odometer as a next step

Please check this video starting at 7:24. All other steps are not relevant to the cluster.
