1993 LS400 refrigerant
Hi, I am finding that there are conflicting accounts online as to wether the 93 LS400 uses the old R12 refrigerant in its AC system or that it uses the newer Freon free refrigerant. The Consumer reports says it uses the modern R134 but other sources seem to disagree, or maybe I am confused by all the model years and AC jargon. Does anyone know the actual AC gas situation in the 93 model?

1990-1992 is R12 (unless converted to R134a)
1993+ is R134a
There should be labels on parts of your car, like the compressor, that specify R134a

Look at the charge ports:
R12 ports are threaded. R134 ports are quick release (similar to an air compressor hose coupler).
The other option is a system that has been converted (properly) to R134 from R12; there should be R12 - to - R134 adapters screwed onto the ports:
